The new range of Comet diaphragm pumps for agriculture was presented at Eima 2022 and is now very successful: let's find out all its details.
As a world leader in the industry and as an Italian excellence, Comet chose Eima in Bologna, Italy's leading exhibition for agricultural machinery, to present its new range of diaphragm pumps.
Diaphragm pumps
Included in the range of positive-displacement pumps, diaphragm pumps take advantage of alternating changes in the volume of a chamber to generate pressure imbalances and to pump liquids.
In agriculture, therefore, they are mainly used for spraying and weeding, in the treatment of orchards, vineyards and olive groves. A choice driven by the main benefits these components may offer: excellent priming and self-priming, good dry running and high mechanical-chemical resistance of the components.
The new Comet range
Comet's new agricultural pumps can be divided into four product groups, made as an evolution and extension of the historic range, to meet the new needs of the industry and to facilitate spray work in the fields.
Nowadays, in fact, those who make agriculture a profession have to face new challenges: environmental sustainability, reduction of energy consumption and new areas of application, organic farming first and foremost.

Low pressure spraying pumps
With BPX 25, Comet has created a new low pressure pump with innovative all-plastic made wet-parts for maximum chemical resistance of heads and manifolds to abrasion and corrosion.
This pump features an unlimited series of power drives and maximum ease of maintenance, thanks to the new external manifolds and valves which can now be inspected using a standard hex or Allen key.
The BPX 25 main features include:
- Positive-displacement piston-diaphragm pumps
- Maximum pressure of 15 bar
- Max flow rate of 25 l / 1 ‘ @ 540 RPM
The main benefits of this innovative pump are:
- Easy topping up with oil, thanks to the external tank.
- Multiple drive solutions: PTO, hydraulic, stroke, electric, etc.
BPX 25s are particularly suitable in crop protection (including organic crops) and seed inoculation.
BP-X and BP-S range
Among the new low pressure spraying pumps, Comet also offers the BP-X and BP-S range.
The new BP-X range is the natural development of the glorious BP-K line, a genuine milestone in the history of Comet spraying pumps. It was created to provide all possible state-of-the-art advantage without changing its essential features, i.e., main sizes and spare parts list.
It consists of:
- BPX 140
- BPX 180
- BPX 270
The main elements - such as diaphragms, shaft, connecting rods and pistons - are the same as BP-K, so the BP-X range allows customers to upgrade to the latest spraying technologies with minor impact on design and inventory, resulting in huge savings for OEMs, after-market professionals and end users.
Optimized fluid dynamics and reduced clearance volumes within pumping chambers and manifolds make for excellent priming and displacement efficiency. The innovative check valve design, on the other hand, allows silent and smooth operation, thus enabling maximum tightness, opening and closing velocity and no flickering.
The BP-X main features include:
- Positive-displacement piston-diaphragm pumps
- Maximum pressure of 20 bar
- Max flow rate of 132 to 265 l / 1 ‘ @ 540 RPM
The main benefits of this innovative range are:
- Extreme chemical resistance based on the innovative nylon-made wet parts: heads and manifolds
- The highest resistance to axial and radial thrust, thanks to the built on-chassis holding brackets.
- Multiple drive solutions: PTO, hydraulic, stroke, etc.
- Orientable suction and pressure fittings (fly-nut or clip available).
- Water drain plug on all pumps
- Absolute interchangeability with the corresponding BP-K units
BP-X range pumps are particularly suitable in crop protection and road de-icing.
The BP-S range, on the other hand, has undergone an expansion and updated models mainly through optimizing mechanical engineering. The new range doubles with 4 new models, with a performance range from BPS160 to the new BPS385.

The BP-S main features include:

The main benefits offered by this new range are:
- Excellent priming and displacement efficiency, thanks to optimized fluid dynamics and reduced clearance volumes within the pumping chambers and manifolds
- Extreme chemical resistance due to the innovative head coating and nylon-made manifolds
- The highest resistance to axial and radial thrust, thanks to the built on-chassis fastening brackets.
- Multiple drive solutions: PTO, hydraulic, etc.
- Orientable suction and pressure fittings (fly-nut or clip available).
- Water drain plug on all pumps
BP-S range pumps are also suitable in crop protection and road de-icing.
P 40/20 and MP55
P 40/20 and MP55 low pressure spraying pumps are built on the same mechanical basis and are the result of Comet's synergies with its best partners, representing a very important step forward towards more sustainable spraying technologies, both in terms of environmental impact and energy consumption.
Here again we have an evolution of materials, for maximum resistance to chemical agents thanks to the all-technopolymer made wet parts (heads and manifolds), while the check valves are available in different materials, based on the specific needs in agriculture, construction and sanitization.
The P 40/20 and MP55 main features include:
- Positive-displacement piston-diaphragm pumps
- Max flow rate of 56.5 l / 1 '
- Maximum pressure of 30 bar
- Available with control unit
The main advantages offered by P 40/20 and MP55 are:
- Accessibility: a single manifold for pressure and suction facilitates valve inspection and plumbing-drive connection.
- Drive versatility: the pump is suitable for different power supplies: stroke, electric, PTO, hydraulic.
P40/20 is specifically designed for applications requiring maximum corrosion resistance. Therefore, all contact parts are made of polypropylene and stainless steel.
MP55, on the other hand, was made to meet the requirements of organic farming and sustainable agricultural spraying, based on natural substances, while respecting the surrounding soil and wildlife. However, this pump guarantees a pressure of 30 bar and is therefore perfectly suitable for the treatment of arboreal crops such as vineyards, olive trees and fruit plants in general.
The Argo control units
The Argo 2-way manual control units with max pressure regulation complement the new Comet range.
Particularly suitable for orchard sprayers, all models are available with the following features:
